Purpose of Processing

Personal data is processed for purposes related to:

Additionally, personal data is used for customer communication, newsletters, and marketing purposes, including direct marketing and electronic marketing. Personal data is used for direct marketing only if the customer has given consent.

The data controller processes personal data directly and may also use subcontractors acting on behalf of the controller.

Legal Basis for Processing

The processing of personal data is based on the following grounds under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR 2016/679):

  • The data subject has given consent for one or more specific purposes (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a))

  • Processing is necessary for the performance of a contract to which the data subject is a party or to take steps at the request of the data subject prior to entering into a contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b))

  • Processing is necessary for the purposes of legitimate interests pursued by the controller or a third party (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f))

The legitimate interest arises from the meaningful and appropriate relationship between the data subject and the controller as a customer, and when processing occurs for purposes the customer could reasonably expect.

Contents of the Register

The customer register contains the following data:

  • Customer name
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • Order and product details
  • Other customer-provided information
  • Delivery and payment methods
  • Shipment tracking information
  • IP address
  • Web browser and device information
  • Login username and password (if applicable)

Data is collected for order processing, delivery, and improving service quality. Customers are asked for consent to receive electronic marketing. Information is collected directly from the customer at the time of order.

Disclosure of Data and Security

Personal data may be disclosed to third parties providing services for order processing, delivery, and service improvement, e.g.:

  • Payment providers (e.g., Checkout Finland)
  • Shipping providers (e.g., Posti, Matkahuolto)
  • Marketing and content platforms used for email marketing

Third parties are not allowed to use the data for their own purposes and only receive the information necessary for service execution. All data transfers are encrypted. Personal data may be disclosed to authorities as required by law.

Data is generally not transferred outside the EU/EEA unless necessary for service execution. Transfers outside the EU/EEA comply with applicable law to ensure adequate data protection.

The register is accessible only to personnel whose job duties require it. Users are bound by confidentiality obligations.

Data Retention

Customer data is retained for the duration of the customer relationship. Data remains in the register until the customer requests deletion. Data may only be deleted after all orders have been legally fulfilled. If a customer has not placed a new order for five (5) years, data will be deleted automatically by the controller.

Karppinen.shop uses cookies to improve service quality, monitor user traffic, and enhance website security. A cookie is a small text file sent to and stored on the user’s device. Cookies do not harm devices or files. Cookies can be disabled in browser settings.

Cookies are used to ensure the service is safe, efficient, and user-friendly. They are also used for statistical analysis and guiding user-friendly functions. Data collected via cookies is anonymous and is not combined with the customer register or order information.
